Project: Biogen biopharmaceutical production plant in Luterbach near Solothurn, Switzerland
Owner: Biogen International GmbH, Zug, Switzerland
Contractor: Marti Bauunternehmung AG, Basel
Engineering and support: MEVA Formwork Systems, Seon, Switzerland
A state-of-the-art biopharmaceutical production plant is being built for the US biotechnology company Biogen, located on the grounds of a former paper factory in Luter bach near Solothurn, Switzerland. Biogen was founded in 1978 in Geneva and is specialised on neurological illnesses. Today, the company is market leader in medication against multiple sclerosis. The new plant is modular so it can be extended easily if more capacity is required. Two production units, 28 m high and 60 m long, are being built first.
The Mammut 350 wall formwork is the definitive panelised system for fast, high pours, covering a large forming surface of 8.75 m² per panel (2.50 x 3.50). Large wall areas up to 8.50 m as on this project are easily ganged and poured fast.
Concrete load capacity 100 kN/m²
The entire Mammut 350 system masters a fresh concrete pressure of up to 100 kN/m² throughout the forming area, allowing unlimited pour speeds up to 4 m high, irrespectively of climatic conditions and concrete mixture. This also applies to self-compacting and flowable concrete, which explains why the Mammut 350 is often found on civil engineering projects requiring very high, fast pours.
SecuritBasic is a complete plug-in safety system for the Mammut 350 wall panels with working platforms, fall protection on all sides, safety hatch and a ladder on which workers climb with their backs to the panel. Compensation and corner platforms ease adaptation to changing wall footprints. Safe working conditions are enhanced by the comfortable 75 cm platform width.
Ground assembly, all accessories attached to multifunction profile
SecuritBasic is assembled on the ground and flown into position as a complete unit. You only need crane hooks. All attachments to the weldedin Dywidag nut in the multifunction profile use identical parts. This, in turn, simplifies site logistics and saves time and effort.
Brace frames attached to the back of the platform
No props go through the planking. This avoids stumbling or tripping obstacles and enhances safe working conditions.

MEVA fulfils stringent requirements with flexible formwork solutions. The Budapest Zoo & Botanical Garden is one of the Hungary’s most popular cultural attractions.
When MEVA rigorously inspects, cleans and reconditions selected, used formwork, the results become part of the MEVA Original Used Formwork brand.
MEVA STB 450 offers flexible solution for narrow, inclined rail section: Near the municipality of Gretzenbach, the four-track route branches into two separate lines. Here, the two southern tracks gradually descend and pass below the cantonal road before entering the new Eppenberg Tunnel.
